It’s easy to talk about our goals and keep them only in our head. But those goals will hardly get traction. There are too many distractions and competing thoughts and “shiny objects” that will take your brain’s focus away quickly.

Your brain needs your help to help you achieve your goals and dreams!

WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS AND YOUR PLAN
The physical act of writing down a goal not only makes it real and tangible, but now you have no excuse for forgetting about it and have to take it seriously.

Giving each goal a PLAN OF ACTION IN WRITING makes each step clear and lessens the anxiety about it while lessening the opportunity for procrastination to set in and waylay your goals.

OTHER TIPS

Tip 1:
Frame your goal statement positively. Say what you WANT, not what you DON’T WANT.

Example: “I will to be 25 pounds lighter in 3 months and feel healthy and vital!” Instead of, “I need to lose 25 pounds.”

Example: If you want to improve your retention rates say, “I will hold on to all existing employees for the next quarter” rather than “I will reduce employee turnover.” The first one is motivating; the second one has a get-out clause “allowing” you to succeed even if some employees leave.

Use words that are proactive for your brain to follow forward, like “will”, not passive words like “maybe”, “might”, “would like to”, or fearful words like, “I have to”.

Tip 2:
Read through your goals every day at least three times: morning, afternoon and before you go to sleep.

Carry the core goals on a note card with you if you have to to reflect on them often. You are literally “retraining your brain” to see your self and life differently than it is now.

Visualize your goals them “already done” and see the steps to have gotten there. If you don’t keep this focus your very unfocused, distracted brain will lose sight of them easily and another year will go by without accomplishing your intentions.
